Ranjan is a TOP CERT image editor who is as fierce as a lion! Enjoying the ‘freeness’ of freelancing, Ranjan hopes to build a team of new freelancers to work with him within the next few years!
Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into freelancing?
Hi! My name is Ranjan Sutradhar. Today I’d like to tell you a little about myself. I’m now working as a full-time freelancer. My area of expertise includes image editing such as image retouching, colour correction, cut out photo, photo restoration, eCommerce photo editing, etc, based on Adobe PhotoShop and Illustrator.
I moved into freelancing full-time about 3 years ago. Prior to that, I worked as a photo editor in several photo editing firms. While working full-time elsewhere I always felt there was a lack of freedom and I didn’t get enough time to spend with my family. Now thanks to freelancing I’m enjoying the ‘freeness’ of working with my family and working from my home. Within the next few years I hope I’d be able to build a team of new freelancers to work with myself.
What was your previous job before deciding to go freelance?
My previous job was in a large IT firm in Dhaka, Bangladesh. I worked there in the Image Editing department. I gradually became an expert on various software, especially on Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. I also had training on Advance Image retouching and colour correction from a reputable graphic design institution.
How did you come across PPH?
After a few years of practising freelancing on a part-time basis, I decided to move towards full-time freelancing and started to search on Google to find the best freelancing marketplace, and that is how I found PPH. I studied a lot of reviews about PPH first then signed up as a freelancer.
What was your first job like on PPH?
I remember my first job I did on PPH was removing backgrounds from 100 photographs and placing them on a pure white background. I had done a lot of jobs like those before locally as well and because of the vast experience I had working on that type of job before, I did it perfectly and got an excellent review from the client. The client was so pleased with me, three years passed by, and I’m still working with that buyer on a continuing basis.
What is a typical day like for you?
Unlike the ‘TOP’ freelancers, I don’t have much structure in my day. I get up in the morning, I work as long as I can, I go to bed at night. The nice thing is that if I want to live a casual family day, go out, meet people, I can! The downside is that I can’t predict how busy I’m going to be in the next day. But most of the days I usually don’t have to face any problem as I work from my home, not in a 9 – 5 office.
How does freelancing compare to a 9-5?
I’d definitely give freelancing top marks compared to a 9-5 job. The first thing I love is freedom. I don’t need to work like the other odd jobs. I’ve a freedom to work in a weekend also. Isn’t that great that I can work from any where I want, such as home, garden, only with my laptop and internet connection.
What benefits have you found by using PPH?
I’ve found a lot of benefits using PPH. 3 main benefits are listed below:
1. PPH has the opportunity to sell services posting Hourlies.
2. Secure payment with different currency.
3. Flexible payment method and awesome customer support.
What does your future hold? Where would you like to take this?
In our country there are so many educated unemployed people struggling to get a day job. Sometimes they get frustrated trying year after year and do nothing. My aim is to train them properly, and make an excellent team of professional freelancers. In this way, my country will get foreign remittance; unemployed people will be employed, and my earning will increase day by day.
What are your top 5 tips for freelancers who are new to PPH?
1. Prepare yourself by completing your profile with an excellent portfolio of your previous work, that will particularly help you when applying for a job. Get endorsements from the people you’ve worked for.
2. Submit your proposal only to the job that you have expertise in. Do not copy – paste the cover letter/proposal letter.
3. Try to submit proposals as soon as you can after posting a job. Always try to respond instantly if the buyer has any queries. You can also use PPH apps for better communication even if you’re out of the house, this means you can respond instantly from your mobile phone or tablet.
4. Deliver the job on time within your best abilities.
5. Don’t feel fear, anxiety; don’t hold back. Say what you can do and try to do as you can. Do it with confidence! Don’t feel like you’re not good enough to be successful – Always be positive and say: You can!
What web browser do you use?
I usually use Mozilla Firefox. Sometimes Google Chrome also.
If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?
If I could be any animal, it would be a lion. They are independent but they stay with the pack. I believe that I have those qualities as I can work alone as well as with the others successfully.
