Tell us a bit about yourself. What do you do? How did you get into freelancing?
I had always changed my job quite frequently. There was always something wrong; I didn’t like this, I didn’t like that… Not that I hate working, but I had always dreamed that “I will be my own boss some-day”.
After some time, I decided to quit my job. It was a hard decision to leave a regular job, but I loved studying Internet marketing and making money online. I was reading a lot about it so I decided to create an affiliate eCommerce website selling clothes and accessories, and I was making enough money to quit my regular job! Although the income I made through the website was not as big as my previous salary, I took the chance and the risk.
From then on, I started to put a lot more of my time into it. I was reading a lot of forums, learning more about people making money on the Internet. It was at this point that I found a PeoplePerHour discussion on a forum. Initially I registered for fun since I knew a lot about Internet marketing, designing and writing.
I created a few hourlies and almost forgot about it, until one day, I was browsing my email and I received an email from PeoplePerHour with the subject line:
“Yippee! You sold an Hourlie!”
I clicked to open the email in less than a second! I was so thrilled! I sold my first service for 25 Euros.
I probably delivered my first Hourlie in an hour, or something. I was working like crazy! Then BAM! I received my first 5 star rating from a buyer. I was soooo happy. After that it slowly started to roll and I was sharing my PPH profile everywhere!
One of my services is a real gem! I have sold more than 120 of those and I have returning clients, which has allowed me to build my clientèle.
What is a typical day like for you?
First thing in a morning, I check my emails and drink my coffee. I start to check my memos from the day before to see if I have any open projects. It is not unusual for me to have some open projects, so I will work on them. They’ll either be a writing, data entry, marketing or managing job.
I tend to find that the simplest looking jobs take the most time. I will be working on open projects until around 13:00 and after this, I go and pick up my daughter from school (I am a happy “stay at home” mom).
Once we get home, I start to make lunch. Around 15:00 I get back to my online job and try to finish as many tasks as possible and I am working until around 19:00.
How has PeoplePerHour helped you? What have you been able to achieve?
PeoplePerHour has helped me a lot! Firstly, I have been able to buy a new car! It’s not something crazy expensive yet… but it is something! It is Renault Clio. I don’t need my husband’s car anymore to pick up our daughter from school! It has also taken a lot of stress out of my life due to quitting my job. I have some financial security now and I am trying to increase it. I am hoping to buy an airline ticket this year to visit my parents, as I haven’t seen them for 6 years already, so I know they would appreciate it if I could!
What are some of the most exciting projects that you have worked on through PPH?
I have some video creating and promoting services because this is something I genuinely love to do. It definitely excites me when I sell these services! But my biggest and most thrilling job on PPH was my first one! I triple checked everything was correct and when I realised that the buyer had already paid for the service, I instantly started working on it.
At that time, I couldn’t remember when I felt so happy at work. It was a crazy feeling, yet I was so nervous for the feedback my buyer would leave for me. You really don’t want to get a bad review when you’re just starting out, but luckily I made it and received a 5 star rating! I will never forget it.
I have completed many projects now since I first started on PeoplePerHour, then came a big shock. My Hourlie was pushed to the top of the search engine on PPH due to a change in their search algorithms. I got 27 hourlies in one day I felt like I’d hit the jackpot!!! I was working night and day for 5 days straight to deliver the hourlies, I managed to do it and deliver them with a 5 star rating!
Can you offer some tips for those who are just starting out?
I would encourage you to promote your profile to as many friends, relatives, and on as many social media platforms as possible. Try to join some discussions on popular marketing forums and include your profile link in your signature, slowly you will notice that clients start to roll in your way. Try to promote yourself as much as you can and eventually you will make some money.
