Meet Amer, a Level 5 PPH certified Interior Design, Exterior Design, 3D Visualization, 3D Rendering, 3D Modeling, Architectural Design, 3D Animation expert based in Sydney, Australia.
Tell us a bit about yourself. How did you get into freelancing?
I graduated from a reputed University in Jordan in Interior Design and Decoration major. I came to love this specialty through training in an architectural engineering office. I overheard an engineer advising one of his relatives to study interior design and since that time, the idea was fixed in my mind. I followed my desire and I studied that subject. That major was my way to learn the meaning of beauty, the meaning of the colours, the meaning of creativity, and how to use my imagination to transfer an idea. In addition, I was looking for everything related to interior design, architecture, 3D, and animation.
What was your previous job before deciding to go freelance?
After I graduated, I worked in the Gulf region for more than nine years which helped me to get a lot of experience. In addition, I felt I needed to have my own business. I tried many sites, but I should say that Peopleperhour is one of the best! The site helped me to experience different people in their various cultures.
How did you come across PPH?
I checked out the videos online about how to become a freelancer and what was the best platform. Let me say that PPH is one of the best sites you can deal with because it has some fantastic features.
What was your first job like on PPH?
The first job for me was a Café design with 2 floors and the client wanted 3D interior renders. I managed to convince the client that he would receive professional work on time from me and won the work. I got a good rate for that project and I was so happy – I began to believe that that step by step my dreams would become a reality! I spent a lot of time on that job, being as cooperative as I could, to provide the best work to gain his trust. Frankly speaking, I was happy to finish that work perfectly and on time which gave me the chance for more work and projects.
What is a typical day like for you?
To be punctual and committed, you need to schedule your day. I always get up at eight in the morning. I prepare my coffee and turn my laptop on to check my e-mails and any new projects. I always work on my current project and edit others when I need to. I also check new posts and try to apply for projects which are suitable for my skills. Taking breaks during my work day is essential in order to be refreshed all the time.
How does freelancing compare to a 9-5?
Having your own business is so good. You can feel free. You can manage your time and day by yourself. On the other hand, it needs concentration and patience. When you finish a project you feel you are achieving your goals and doing a great job for your client and yourself.
What benefits have you found by using PPH?
As I said earlier, working using PPH helps me to find different jobs to utilise my design skills. Also, it gives me the feeling of comfort. PPH helps me to improve every aspect of my life.
What does your future hold? Where would you like to take this?
If you are an ambitious person and always looking for the best, you will reach your goals. I am always a positive person who completes every job with happiness and sincerity. PPH provides an opportunity to have a very good future if you are an ambitious and committed individual.
What are your top 5 tips for freelancers who are new to PPH?
I think these tips are useful for beginners …
- Write your own profile perfectly.
- Organise your time to do your work and deliver projects on time.
- Try to understand the client mentality; some clients know what they want and what design they need. Others know what they need but don’t know how to design it. Then there are clients who don’t know anything about design and they need you to help them with an idea and guidelines. I advise you to understand what main points they need and try to send them samples to figure what type of design they are looking for.
- Get your proposal concluded and don’t write a long story. Try to suggest some solutions and provide some advice to the client so he/she knows that you understand their project and that you are professional.
- Try to be on time with perfect work, and be on hand to update the design if requested.
What are your top 5 tips for a 3D interior designer?
- You have to demonstrate good experience and always be up-to-date with the new styles and ideas.
- Be patient and read the instructions of the required work in order to finalize it in the best way.
- Try to get the clients trust and answer nicely if you are asked. Don’t do a job if you are unsure.
- Try to bid for jobs which are related to your skills and experience and avoid working in areas which you are not perfect in.
- Make sure you send the client a milestone plan with different dates, this demonstrates that you are organised and will submit the work on time.

If you were an animal, which one would you be and why?
I would like to be a falcon. I will feel free to fly in the open-sky and touch the clouds to feel free of hatred.
